• Imam Jaffar al-Sadiq said:

When our Qaim appears, he will see things from the ignorant people (of his own time) that our Prophet (saas) never saw from the ignorant people of the society of ignorance.

Al-Fudayl asked: How will that be? And he replied:

When our Prophet (saas) came, people worshiped stones and idols they had carved.BUT WHEN OUR QAIM COMES, PEOPLE WILL INTERPRET AND COMMENT UPON ALLAH’S BOOK AGAINST HIM. THEY WILL BRING EVIDENCE AGAINST HIM FROM ALLAH’S BOOK. (Mu’jam Ahadith Imam Mahdi Vol. 3 p. 500 , Bihar Vol. 52 p. 362)

Hazrat Mahdi (as) will attract a reaction from the idolaters and bigots of his time that our Prophet (saas) never received from the ignorant. This means there will be a rise in the number of people who interpret the verses of the Qur’an according to their own minds and misinterpret it. And they will accuse Hazrat Mahdi (as) of apostasy and idolatry. Imam Jaffar says this. Imam Jaffar relates it from our Prophet (saas). And our Prophet (saas) imparts it through revelation from Allah.

Rasulullah (saas) one day asked his people; may Allah bestow salat and peace to him:

I WILL TELL YOU OF A CITY. ITS POSITION IS LIKE THIS. ONE SIDE OF IT OPENS ONTO THE SEA, AND THE OTHER ONTO LAND. HAS ANY OF YOU EVER SEEN OR HEARD OF SUCH A CITY?”

They said:

We have heard of such a place. THAT PLACE MUST BE VERY WELL MAINTAINED. Has it now collapsed and vanished?

At this, he said:

“... The sons of Isaak will come to that city with seventy thousand people;  THIS CITY THEY WILL COME TO IS CONSTANTINOPLE. THIS ARMY WILL TAKE THAT CITY. IN TAKING IT, THEY WILL USE NEITHER SWORD, NOR ARROWS NOR ANY OTHER WEAPON … THEY WILL DESTROY THOSE WHO OPPOSE THEM BY RECITATION (OF THE DECLARATION OF THE UNITY OF ALLAH).SUCH THAT THEY WILL ALL RECITE THE TAKBIR WITH ONE VOICE; THEY WILL FIRST SAY LA ILAHA ILLALLAH, AND THEN THEY WILL SAY ALLAHU AKBAR… AT THIS, THAT SIDE OF THE CITY BY THE SEA WILL BEGIN TO COLLAPSE. THEY WILL REPEAT THE SAME DECLARATION OF THE UNITY OF ALLAH AND ONCE AGAIN RECITE THE TAKBIR; AND THE REMAINING PART WILL THEN COLLAPSE. THOSE WHO HEAR THAT SOUND WILL FEAR THAT THE DAY OF RECKONING HAS COME. SO HOW CAN THAT CITY NOT THEN FALL? HOW CAN IT NOT COLLAPSE? THEY WILL THEN BEGIN TO REMEMBER ALMIGHTY ALLAH FOR THE THIRD TIME, AND THE CITY WILL OPEN UP ENTIRELY, AND THEY WILL ENTER IN.

• They will capture Istanbul spiritually, by reciting the name of Allah. He says they will use no weapons. He says they will all recite the takbir with a single voice, in other words, they will first say La ilaha illAllah, and then Allahu Akbar. They recite the first takbir. They declare the oneness of Allah.

HE SPOKE OF THE COMING OF HAZRAT MAHDI (AS). "AFTER ITS OBSTINCACY, THE WORLD WILL RETURN TO US WITH LOVE, LIKE A BITING CAMEL AFFECTIONATELY RETURNING TO ITS YOUNG." (He then recited this verse) "We desired to show kindness to those who were oppressed in the land and to make them leaders and make them inheritors.” (Surat al-Qasas, 5)

• The world will first be obstinate, like an aggressive, biting camel. It is first aggressive, but then turns back to its young with great affection. The world will also return with affection in the time of Hazrat Mahdi (as). The blessings and beauties of this world will first be inverse. Food, life, traffic, the streets and everything will be spoiled, but in the time of Hazrat Mahdi (as) everything will resume its finest form.

• Rasulullah (saas) related: You will soon not see a rational person, and rational people will be suspicious of themselves and a blind and deaf corruption will be directed toward you. (At that time) people will have no reason, just like the animals. And nobody will have any place to shelter from that corruption. Nobody will have the strength to say things like "Why?" or "That is enough!" Corruption will begin in one place before it has come to an end in another. Everyone will imagine himself to be something special (very intelligent, devout and genuine). But they will be nothing... Until someone of my line appears, there will be no home that corruption has not entered... (Et-Tashrif Bil Menun,Kitab al-Malahim and Fitan, Sayyid ibn Tawus pp. 68,70,72)

Rasulullah (saas) related these words. You will soon be unable to see one rational person, and rational people will doubt themselves, and a blind and deaf corruption will be directed toward you. He says people will lose their reason in the End Times. “A blind and deaf corruption” is Darwinism and materialism. People’s minds will be blind, he says. People will lose all reason, so they resemble animals. He says they will be utterly irrational. They will think of neither past nor future, nor of the hereafter or the existence of Allah. He says they will just seek primitive things, to meet primitive needs, like eating and drinking, having relations and sleeping. What do animals do? They eat, sleep, reproduce, sleep and move about. That is all.  And nobody will have any place to shelter from that corruption. Nobody will have the strength to say things like "Why?" or "That is enough!"

• They will be unable because they have no reason. They will be unable to ask what is going on or how to put matters right. He says the majority of people will be unable to say, “Let Islam rule the world.” Corruption will begin in one place before it has come to an end in another. Everyone will imagine himself to be something special.  Everyone will imagine he is on the true path and is very intelligent and that his society is the best. He says a corruption will spring up in one place as it ends in another. He then says that there will be no homes into which corruption has not entered until one of his line, Hazrat Mahdi (as), appears.

• There may be no enmity between communities, but there are no close bonds, either, among the majority, no getting to know one another. That is really what is being described here. With Islamic Union, Muslims are like bricks in a wall. When one is intervened, they all counter-attack (intellectually). But now, if one suffers injustice, the rest are even completely unaware of it. Allah says they should be like bricks in a wall. But we have division, instead of being welded together. For example, the majority of people are completely unaware of the Muslims in Egypt. And they are unaware of the ones here. They are unaware of Iraq, Algeria or Tunisia. They just appear in the papers. We should altogether resist (intellectually),  but it does not happen. At one time, if one or two people in the Islamic world were subjected to an injustice the whole Muslim world would rise up, intellectually speaking. Sects will disappear in the time of Hazrat Mahdi (as). Muslims will be one. When one is wronged, they will all counter-attack, intellectually speaking. It will be impossible not to be victorious under those conditions.


• “and do you laugh [to scorn] and do not cry?” (Surat al-Najm, 60)

Such a person is heedless. He laughs all the time. He never speaks of Allah or religion or Islam. But he would stop laughing if he could see his situation  in the hereafter. What would he do? He would be terrified and pull himself together. He would weep and try to get Allah to forgive him. But what if he could see his situation in the hereafter if he heedlessly and mindlessly attacks people and plays games with them, if he hurts and oppresses them, if he attaches no importance to Islam and the Qur’an, if he works against Islam and religion, if he says ugly things about Allah, religion, sacred issues and Muslims on the web sites, and even laughs at these, if he uses sinful expressions and then laughs at what he has done? Then he would be terrified and weep and repent. That is what is being referred to, insha’Allah.
